The tuba is the largest in shape and the lowest in range among the brass instruments. It is also one of the pipes which has the most complicated shape changes.Since tuba was created in the 19 th century, as the last member of brass family, it has had a qualitative leap from the structure to the way of making sounds to the evolution of tones. The musicians have constantly tried various inner diameter, flapper combination as well as the materials, and they finally made the tuba the most enduring instrument. Nowadays, the tuba that the players all around the world are playing has few changes in the system. However, the players from different countries still have different options. Consequently, different performance skills and different musical schools came into being. The thesis analyses the era features and performance techniques of Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto by making a comparison between it and other works and sums up a set of performance skills suitable for Chinese players.Hopefully, it can promote the development of tuba playing in China. |
