Fiction And Creation----On The Art Of Borges’s Novels

This thesis adopts progressive structure and tries to study the technique of literary fiction and the idea of creative art in Borges’s novels. By reading " The circular ruins", we can interpret the whole content of Borges novels through different symbolics and metaphors in the text. We can make further efforts on the complete works by treating "The circular ruins" as the discussion center and origin, than we can present the creation process of Borges’s thoughts as far as possible. Through close reading, I put forward two main confusion of Borges:the essence of human and the reality of world. Combining with Borges’s biography and interviews, we can find Borges’s views about the self and the world, and find the keyword "create", thus to understand and distinguish Borges’s thoughts by mystic, existentialism and metaphysic. Borges tried to find answers of the problem that had confused his life by philosophy and religion, but these intellectual systems are not his final resting place. His humility, his individual attention and his self-seeking, are serious, so that he only to refuge in his fictional literature and art.For Borges, fiction is to creation, and Borges’s creation has two meanings. First, it means human civilization, the origin of the universe, history and religion and so on. these knowledge systems are the creations of human wisdom. The world is sporadic, mysterious, unknown. Instead of saying that Borges believes there is a transcendent existence, it is better to say that he believes in the wisdom of mankind itself. That history is formed in creation, and will be continued to creat. Second, it means Salvation. Borges’s questions about the individual life and the reality of world are so strong that the confusions even fear him for a long time, the value of existence and the only way of salvation lies in writing. Fiction is a novel writing technique, it is also a way to understand life. It is the creation of existence. So, for him, the creation is not the science and technology invents, but the Literature and art creation, aesthetic creation, this unique creation of Borges makes infinite meaning of his novel world, mazes the reading experience, creats his dreaming perception of life and the universe. Writing has become his way to dealing with life, which has been integrated into his spiritual life. In this grand self-seeking road, Borges has put the his anxiety away gradually, living in the world of artistic creation happily and safely.Borges’s novels announce the fictions of the world and self, debunk the trick of civilization and history, teach us to read these fictions with aesthetic appreciation, and creat our own world and self.
