This article takes a preliminarily systematic research on the internal continuum of 776 disyllable adjectives in “Chinese adjective usage dictionary”(the commercial press) under the referentiality function. From the character structure of “’s” being subject or object as adjective to entering the structure of “A’s N”, the article makes a detailed description and analysis on the research objects. The whole article is made up of six chapters.Chapter One: Introducing the objective, purpose, significance and methods of the research, source of language material, studying scope, and theoretical backgrounds.Chapter Two: based on whether the adjective can be used as bare subject or object, categorizes disyllable adjectives into four types of D, E, F and G. Meanwhile,we find that adjectives which can be used as bare subjects can all be used as bare objects but adjectives which can be used as bare objects cannot be all used as bare subjects. But after entering into the structure of “N’s A”, they can be freely used as subjects. According to these standards, the first disyllable adjective’s interior continuum can be obtained. In this chapter, we have made corresponding research on other issues of adjectives being as subjects or objects.Chapter Three: mainly takes a study on the disyllable adjective which can enter the “’s” structure and then compares it with the disyllable adjective which can be used as bare subject or object. Then categorizes adjectives which can enter the “’s”structure into three types of L, M, G. Then this chapter identifies the attribute meaning of six types of disyllable adjective of D, E, F, L, M, and G based on the criteria of character adjective and state adjective, and at last in this chapter the second disyllable adjective’s interior continuum is obtained.Chapter Four:based on whether the adjective can enter the “N’s A” structure andfive standards to differentiate the character adjective and state adjective, categorizes the disyllable adjective into three types of A, B and C. Then according to five standards to differentiate the character adjective and state adjective, this chapter studies and finds that the A type disyllable adjective which cannot enter the “N’s A”structure is the most inclined to the character adjective. We can even say that the A type disyllable adjective is typical character adjective. B type adjective is inclined to the character adjective and C type adjective is inclined to the state adjective. Compare A and C type adjective, C type adjective can enter this structure except for the nature of adjective’s attribute meaning and state meaning. It is related with “N”, and according to the research, it is because “N”’s accessibility and the syllable has increased the part “A”’s referentiality, which makes this part of adjectives can enter the structure. Therefore, the third disyllable adjective’s interior continuum is obtained.Chapter Five:combines above chapters by through the flow diagram of disyllable adjective’s interior continuum. According to the flow diagram we can find that six types of disyllable adjective of D, E, F, L, M, G and B type disyllable adjectives are all crossed and overlapped. According to the condition of the crossing and overlapping relation, name the exclusive as O type adjective. Hereby a complete disyllable adjective’s interior continuum is obtained.Chapter Six: We summed up the main opinion of the thesis and pointed out the deficiency of this thesis.
