"The Concerto", written by Wendell Nelson, is one of the Brown musical horizon series which were published in the United States in mid-20th century. With a complete system, informative content, profound analysis and incisive perspectives, the book is highly readable. In commentary part, author applies concrete technic approaches including contrast, inclusion and music literature translation as well as a systematic collection and analysis of related discipline materials to provide a comment on "The Concerto" from the perspective of its features, viewpoints and insufficiencies, etc. The thesis also expresses author’s perception of music experience and music literature translation.Though novel organization of materials and narrative approach, the book provides music lovers who have certain music knowledge with a comprehensive guidance of concerto, including its history, musical form evolution, theoretical development, representatives and masterworks, and literature materials, etc. The book also analyzes its music theory trends and the ideological spark of the representatives. The book consists 6 chapters. Chapter one:meaning of the concerto; chapter two:concertos from Baroque period; chapter three:concertos from Classic period; chapter four:Beethoven and his concertos; chapter five:concertos from Romantic period; chapter six: concertos of 20th century.
