With the integration of the world economy, the exchanges between countries become more and more frequent. The rapid development of Chinese economy attracts millions of foreigners to study, visit and do business in China. During their time in China, they may meet health problems sometimes, but feel it hard to solve because of their limited proficiency in Chinese, which brings the huge needs of medical interpreting, and the keen demand of the medical interpreters. The lack of professional medical interpreters calls for the necessity of establishing the medical interpreting courses in medical colleges.In light of the starting development stages of medical interpreting in China and the relatively less research in the training of medical interpreters, the writer puts forward this survey in order to explore the feasibility of setting up medical interpreting courses in medical colleges and to enlighten the training of professional medical interpreters in medical colleges.The survey is conducted in the form of questionnaire and interview, in which the questionnaire respondents are the students from diverse majors in different grades in Baotou Medical College, and the interviewees are the teachers in Foreign Languages Teaching Department of Baotou Medical College. The questionnaire is made up of three main parts:the understanding of medical interpreting, the willing to study it and the suggestions for the teaching. The respondents of interview are designed to consult the teachers about their opinions on the knowledge structure, course setting and teaching approaches in medical interpreting teaching.Based on the analysis of the results from questionnaire and interview, we drawn the following conclusions:1) students are not familiar with medical interpreting at present; 2) after having a rough idea of medical interpreting, students with better English ability from diverse majors show their interest in learning medical interpreting; 3) the main suggestions for teaching are related to teaching set-up and contents, teaching approaches and supporting links.
