As the symbol of Modern Japanese Literature, Natsume Sousaki has the important status in the history of Modern Japanese Literature. He is a world-renowned novelist, he always active in writing and creates many excellent novels. However, just focus our eyes on the field of Natsume Sousaki’s literary studies is not enough. Chinese literature and culture left an indelible imprint in his whole life. He learned Chinese literature in childhood; he is proficient in Chinese literature and has great interest and enthusiasm. His talent in Chinese poetry and works was covered up by his achievement in novels. The research of Chinese poetry and works should be an important part of his studies. Although he was learned English literature in university and studied abroad in UK, Chinese culture and literature as a guiding light in his life. Compare with English literature, he addicts himself to Chinese culture and literature apparently, he can appreciate the connotation of Chinese culture. The Japanese-Chinese poems, which originate from ancient Chinese poetry, have learned the literary techniques, theme and emotion from China. The thesis based on the perspective of cultural studies, used the method of comparison, and discussed the relationship between Natsume Sousaki and Chinese culture. On the basis of research from predecessors, this thesis further analyzed the relationship between Natsume Sousaki and Chinese literature, summarized the Chinese elements in Natsume Sousaki’s poems, in order to demonstrates the Natsume Sousaki’s acceptance of Chinese literature, at the meanwhile, discusses his creation motive and mental factors in the background of Meiji Period of Japan...
