This essay investigated and researched the reasons and characteristics of educational anxiety at the advanced level of Mandarin Chinese study, offering strategies to resolve anxiety at this point in Mandarin language development based on the results of this study’s questionnaire. This study begins with research related to anxiety and language anxiety, analyzing types of anxiety and its origins, as well as analyzing Horwitz et al.’s research regarding language anxiety’s particular characteristics, why it arises and its implications.. Additionally, this thesis received questionnaires from 47 advanced proficiency Mandarin language study abroad students, utilizing graphs and SPSS software to analyze the results of the questionnaires. Further, this thesis will explore what factors are related to advanced level language learners’ anxiety, using these results to determine the reasons for language anxiety. Simultaneously, the thesis author conducted detailed questionnaire inquiries and individual interviews with students in order to explore whether advanced level language learners and elementary level language learners have different types of anxiety and whether the origins of anxiety differ between these two levels. Finally, based on the analysis of the reasons for language anxiety and its characteristics, this thesis will delve into methods to improve teaching strategies, students’ self-cognition and language programs’ curriculum designs.
