Investigation And Research On Henan Sculptures Since 1949

Sculptures have been staying in an important position in the development o f Henan modern art.Since the Republic of China, there have been active sculptors on the land of the Central Plains. After the foundation of the PRC, another group of sculptors came to Henan. In its long historical background of ancient sculpture, they gradually created new art and became the "pioneer" in the field of sculpture in Henan. Until now, the development of Henan’s sculpture has evolved from the original spark into a prairie fire. The thesis makes a systematic combing of the development of Henan sculpture since 1949 in chronological order, regarding the important sculptures in Henan appearing after the founding of China and sculptors as the main research object. First of all, this paper discusses the development of early Henan modern sculpture from two aspects, namely the Henan sculpture education in the period of the Republic of China and the development of Henan sculpture at the early stage of the founding of China.Additionally, the paper studies the sculpture activities in Henan in Cultural Revolution period and the first generation of sculptors working in Henan. Lastly, the paper studies the sculpture development in Henan since the reform and opening up from the sculpture institution, sculpture activities, the second generation of sculptors and Henan urban sculptures. The paper presents the overall condition of Henan sculpture art since 1949 through the above three aspects of in-depth research and combing.
