Fu Yanchang’s Life Experience And His Music Thought

The political standpoint can change the historical status, but it can never change the historical value of a person. The purpose of this paper is to present Fu Yanchang’s life experience and contribution from the perspective of music historiography. The paper is divided into three parts. The first chapter is introduction. In this chapter, "nationalism" was divided into art and politics, which would present different color in special period. Here we should know its contents. The second chapter mainly focused on the introduction of Fu Yanchang’s life experience. The author studied it from his life experience, contribution to the literary, and music education. And the contents include his school days, experiences of visiting abroad, interpersonal relationship, social activities, etc. From the analysis, we could find the time of the embryos of Fu Yanchang’s nationalism music thought, and it is also the accumulation of his opinion on music in early period. The information mainly comes from journals and magazines, press news and comments by others. The third chapter mainly focused on his thought of ethnic music, and this paper analyzed it from the influence of foreign ethnic music, the reasons for lack of Chinese nationalism and the specific methods to create folk music. The information mainly comes from the papers of Fu Yanchang, which were written during the mature period of his thoughts on ethnic music. What is more, these papers also directly presented his opinions. In the conclusion chapter, the author sorted out the general train of thoughts and presented the key conclusion of the author.
