"The Sky Of Women Is Dull, And Wings Are Thin"—the Research Of The Female Body Narrative In Xiao Hong’s Novels

Xiao Hong, from the objective point of view, was a representative of "Female Writing" in Left Wing Cultural Activities in the cultural background of national salvation intertwined with blood and fire. In some kind of sense, undoubtedly Xiao Hong was a pioneer. The reason the author chose Xiao Hong as a research object, was also because the distinctive elegance of the literature and philosophy of the humanities in her literature works.The analysis category of this paper is based on the body theory, and it focuses on and seeks for being close to those special female “inscriptions”, analyzing the unique elegance and value of body writing in Xiao Hong’s novels, in addition that discussing the deepened female awareness and the expression of “individualized” ontology value from the meaning of human life perspective view. This paper is consisted of three chapters. In chapter one, starting from Xiao Hong’s biography, the author depicts the “body tribulations” she suffered, combining with essays and poetry, and then deconstructs the elements she applied in her creativities. Based on the narrative of her impaired body suffered from giving birth, starvation, sickness and injury, chapter two seeks for dissecting the uniqueness in her body narrative and her attention and inquiry of principle of human nature, especially the female one. Chapter three analyses the construction of its spiritual connotations in Xiao Hong’s body narrative in three aspects, and deeply examines her concerns of female living circumstances and her worries about how those reflect the lost and search on the identity of female subjectivity, furthermore discusses her examination of the nationality of the populace in northern China.
