Liang Tsong Tai is an important Modern Chinese writer. He is not only a poet but also a poet translator. Though his poetry translation is not abundant in quantity, but high in quality. Liang Tsong Tai takes poetry translation as "recreation", which requires translating word by word. His opinion appears to be conflicting, but can be referred to the same root. This article is a study of Liang’s recreation in poetry translation, based on the close reading to his translation works and critical works. The discussion will focus on three main aspects:the image in poems, rhythm and rhyme, and taste of poems.Firstly, Liang’s effort to recreate images can be divided in two different ways. He rewrites some non-image words into image in Chinese to make his Chinese translation more poetic. Also, he will recreate some images in Chinese when there is no corresponding image to the Western language.Secondly, Liang will use the "stop" in Chinese language to translate the rhythm of the poem. And he will use "Ping" and "Ze" in Chinese to translate the the alternance of masculine and feminine rhymes in French poems.Thirdly, Liang try to recreate the taste of poems by reading the symbolism and adding philosophical thoughts.This article aims to systematically study Liang Tsong Tai’s poetry translation work and to combine his translation with his poetry critics, in order to enrich the existing study of Liang Tsong Tai.
