The Research On “Twenty-Four Filial Deeds” Stories In Qing Dynasty’s Preachy Novels

Under the background of imperial preach producing in the Qing dynasty, preachy novels are a unique type of ancient vernacular short stories, which are collections and their adaptations about stories of cases combining folk preach and reliable books. The created stories in preachy novels mainly around “imperial edict sixteen items”proposed by Kang Xi. “Promoting filial piety to brothers to improving human relations”is the first item in the imperial preach, therefore, the stories of advising people to being filial piety have a large number in preachy novels. Among them, previous generation of “Twenty-Four Filial Deeds”stories are the sources of these cases of advising people to being filial piety. This paper is a systematic study of source, adaptation and influence of these stories.This paper is divided into three parts: introduction, body text and conclusion. The introduction part is combing the present situation of the topic’s research and pointing out significances of the study. The first chapter discusses the producing background and stories’ collections set of preachy novels and systematically comb “Twenty-Four Filial Deeds”stories’ evolution, pointing out the significant impact on “Twenty-Four Filial Deeds” stories in Diary Book to these relative stories in preachy novels.The second chapter is a summary of several preachy novels related to “Twenty-Four Filial Deeds”stories, it focuses on the sources and adaptations of these relative stories. There is a detailed comparison between relative stories in preachy novels and “Twenty-Four Filial Deeds”stories in Diary Book,pointing out the efforts on stories’ plots, details, characters and functions of preachy education in preachy novels, such as Preachy Set, Preachy Encyclopedia, the Retribution of Filial Piety and Inverse, Preachy Supplements, the Good Normalization and so on. The third chapter is said that preachy novels is a popular type of the Qing Dynasty’s reliable books. Preachy activities has been become the main way to educate people and pure custom due to the popularization of preaching content and way, which has exerted an important influence on the filial piety’s promotion culture in Qing Dynasty. The conclusion summarizes the thesis about this paper, and reiterates the significance of the study.
