Director Ang Lee himself and his films have made great impacts on the whole world, which is of important research value. Ang Lee, a Chinese director, succeeded in making remarkable achievements in international film circle, which to a large extent attributed to his unique growth environment and education receipted. In Ang Lee’s films, it’s easy for us to find factors of traditional Chinese culture and realize the increasing blending and combination between Chinese and western culture. Ang Lee may be regarded as a representative of cross-cultural filmmakers, whose works always reflect the harmony of culture.This article mainly focuses on the Taoism reflected in Ang Lee’ s movie. It consists of four chapters, the first chapter summarizes the status quo of researches on his movies.The second section of the article focuses on Ang Lee’s own growth and learning environment for his films culture, research and analysis from the viewpoint of Chinese culture. The third chapter, as the core part of this article, interprets the Taoism ideas embodied in the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and analyzes relative theories in an all round way including the figure of a specific nationality, the image of Taoism, the sublimity of "forget yourself and quiet the mind" as well as the pursuit to seclusion. The last major chapter analyzes of the impact and significance of the terms of the success of Ang Lee’s film, Causes Ang Lee movie success from the Viewpoint of oriental culture.
