The study of Eric Fisher, one of the most influential expressionist artists in the United States of the 20th century, has important academic and artistic value. The main theme of his works is living conditions of the American suburban residents. Most of his works reflect the current situation of middle class life and his deep love for life. In his paintings the plot is always be shown with the third angles as the observation point and the most common form of expression is to describe the common scenes and stories in daily life with the method of narrative records. When American art world is dominanted by the abstract art, Eric Fisher, as an expressionist artist, has always been loyal to express their feelings and artistic ideas in realistic style.This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which is mainly about Eric Fisher’s life, the style and ideas of his paintings. There are three aspects in the second chapter, namely the discussion of the influence of world trend of art, especially those expressionist paintings, to Eric Fisher’works, and the discussion of the occurrence and development of expressionism, the influence of Expressionism in the world to Eric Fisher’s painting, and the impact of social status in the United states to Fisher Eric. The third chapter is to discuss the narrative features of Eric Fisher’s painting from the painting and photography factors. In the fourth chapter, it discusses about Eric Fisher’s painting art and Chinese contemporary oil painting art and lists the current situation and development of Chinese contemporary oil painting, the historical background of the development of Chinese oil painting, and the comparison of artistic style between Eric Fisher and Chinese contemporary artist Xiaodong Liu. The fifth chapter is the conclusion.
