| Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country, and also one of Africa’s most important countries. Bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries started very early, and also economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries has a long history. “lCultural development and prosperity" policy under the guidance of, Chinese language teaching in the global scope has been in rapid development, Chinese as a second language is very popular in Nigeria. Nigeria is one of the countries in Africa where Confucius Institute was established. The two Nigerian Confucius Institute’s Chinese learners of a total of more than 10 thousand students. However, the Chinese language teaching still exists in some non-standard organizations, with proper research and investigations, there could be more than the present numbers of students who study Chinese in Nigeria.This paper emphasizes mainly on Nigeria’s two Confucius Institutes, a Confucius Classroom, Chinese teaching and teaching resources conditions were investigated and analyzed, mainly from the three perspectives of the Confucius Institute, the students and the teachers, questionnaires were shared. A total of 160 copies of questionnaire was shared, and a total of 132 valid questionnaires were studied. Students of Confucius Institute for Nigeria, the basic situation of the teachers, textbooks and teaching resources were the aims of the investigationIn this thesis, problems existing in the Chinese teaching in the Confucius Institute at the University of Nigeria were analyzed, and they include the following four problems: one is the insufficient number of teachers, teachers’ level needs to be improved; second, the lack of teaching material suitability, a relative lack of teaching resources; the third is students pay attention more to listening than reading and writing, skills development is not balanced; the fourth is student’s Chinese character writing, spoken level needs to be improved. There are solutions for the above problems, mainly obtained from these three aspects: first of all, should pay attention to the training of local teachers in Nigeria, strengthening the training of teachers; secondly, should write a textbook for Nigerian learners,and the teaching resources; finally, we should know the importance of teaching Chinese characters, focusing on the comprehensive development of skills. |
