The Study On Zihuibu’s(《字汇补》)Paraphrase

In order to supplement and correct Zihui(《字汇》),Wu Renchen(吴任臣)wrote a dictionary named Zihuibu in Qing Dynasty.The additions and corrections involved three aspects.First,adding the words which were left out.Second,do a supplement of the missing pronunciation and paraphrases.Third,correcting the errors in discrimination.At the beginning,Zihuibu didn’t get much attention in academia and the derogatory comments was far more than the praiseful ones.However,some large dictionaries such as Kangxi Dictionary(《康熙字典》)and Grand Chinese Dictionary(《汉语大字典》)had cited numerous paraphrases from Zihuibu,so it was a book with great value.At current,the related researches were limited in the fields of styles,characters and dictionary compilations,and were lack of specific research about paraphrases.The paper was a monographic study about the paraphrases of Zihuibu,and the objects were the adding words.The key point was to clear up the difficult paraphrases and was caught out through the way of literature reviews and comprehensive researches.After requiring and comparing the datum in Shuo Wen(《说文》),YuPian(《玉篇》),Long KanShouJing(《龙龛手镜》),GuangYun(《广韵》)and JiYun(《集韵》),the existing errors were teased out.At last,the difficult paraphrases were verified by referring to the knowledge of Phonology,Philology and Exegetics and so on.The whole paper was divided into six chapters. The first chapter was introduction; it mainly introduced the specific circumstances, present researches of Zihuibu and the range of research, methods and meaning of the paper. The second chapter was introduction to definition; it simply introduced the styles and features of the paraphrases. The third chapter classified the paraphrase means. The fourth chapter made detailed discussions about the documentary evidences. The fifth chapter analyzed the errors and found out the reasons. The last chapter studied some individual cases and verified the difficulties.All in all,through the research and elaborating of Supplement of Zihuibu, the test provides references for late generations. By verifying the difficulties, this test enhances the accuracy of Zihuibu and offers basic materials for late ages. What’s more, the outcomes can supply references for the compilation of modern large-scale dictionaries.
