With the increasing popularity of English which is becoming the main language in the world, many enterprises and agencies have the demands of translation between Chinese and English, and have favor towards overseas returnees in order to adapt the development of economy and society and be geared to international community. At the same time,the growing tide of studying abroad facilitates a number of overseas education agencies who help applicants prepare all the required documents. With specific aim and strong appeal, overseas-study documents should show advantages and merits of applicants as more as possible in limited words so as to persuade foreign supervisors to accept the applicants. The readers of overseas-study documents are mostly professors in universities whose mother tongue is English or who are proficient in English, which requires high quality for translation.However Chinese and English have big differences in grammar,expressions and sentence structure, which make obstacles to translation.Therefore, a deep glance of the purpose and characteristics of overseas-study documents provides great help to translation.The translator firstly describes the translating task and the theoretical preparation made in advance, then analyzes examples and summarizes useful translating strategies from the level of translating unit combing with the problems and difficulties confronted while doing translation.Being completed on the basis of plenty of translation practice of overseas-study documents, this thesis mainly talks about the valuablepoints in translator’s eyes and the translating strategies translator adopted under the guidance of Skopos Theory and Text Typology. The translator hopes that this thesis would be a useful reference for theoretical study and translation practice of overseas-study documents in the future.
