Language is the main means of communication between people and the distinctive feature of people’s psychology and mental activity is to constantly give evaluation of the surrounding world while communicating. Very often different people can have different attitudes towards the same things and phenomena, here lies subjectivity of any kind of evaluation. On every level of every language there exist different means of expressing evaluation, and adjectives, being a notional part of speech, have a great potential in expressing evaluative meanings. In the Russian language there exists a fixed system of suffixes of subjective evaluation. In Chinese all the adjectives with suffixes possess bright expressiveness and express speaker’s knowledge about the subject, therefore they also possess certain degree of subjectivity. The subjectivity lies in the quantitative meaning and connotation. In both languages adjectives with suffixes of subjective evaluation have colloquial coloring, and in Russian the colouring is extremely strong. In the Russian language adjectives with suffixes of subjective evaluation can be used in conversational style only. The differences in usage of Chinese and Russian adjectives with suffixes of subjective evaluation are conditioned by all existing differences between the two languages. The syntactic functions of adjectives in the Russian language are fewer than those in Chinese, which certainly influences the translation strategy.
