| English has become a global language for international communication. Without any doubt, the ability to deliver effective English oral presentations is an essential requirement for people working in diverse fields, such as education, business, science, and technology. It is noteworthy that research on the cultivation of English speaking ability by using oral presentation for college students is very limited in the past, especially the combination with the English teaching materials "English For Careers" is still blank, therefore this paper has certain innovations from the perspective of subject, the object of study and promotion application value. This study also has certain reference significance to English teaching reform.In order to fill this gap in our understanding, the present study aims to examine the effectiveness of oral presentation teaching for promoting college students’English oral presentation ability, and to find out students’ interest and attitude have been changed due to the training measures of oral presentation applied to teaching. Meanwhile, this paper investigates whether the students are more aware of appropriate use of language, content structure and oral presentation skills after delivering oral presentation. To answer the questions above, this study uses quantitative research method. The instruments used in this research consist of one pre-test, one post-test and questionnaire. SPSS statistics 17.0 packet handles the results of pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. Ninety-two freshmen majoring in Chinese education from Youth College of Political Science of Inner Mongolia Normal University participated in this study.This study found that oral presentation teaching was of great benefit to the promotion of students’ oral presentation ability, and then improved their English speaking ability. The results also indicated that students’interest and attitude of performing oral presentation was more positive than past. At the same time, college students were more aware of and performed better than before in language usage, content structure and presentation skills. |
