Andre Lefevere, the editor of this book, was a famous Belgian-born scholar and translator. He not only boasts his rich experience in translation but his insightful and inspiring translation theories. Translation, History and Culture—A Sourcebook, a sourcebook which is called by the editor himself, is a collection focusing on the perspective of culture which contains many important thinking about translation produced over centuries(106 BC-1931 BC) in Western Europe in Latin, French,German and English.This translation report gives an analysis and a practical experience summary to a more than ten-thousand-word translation of “Introduction” and “Chapter One/Two,Three” of the book Translation, History and Culture—A Sourcebook. It mainly sums up the methods and techniques that the author applied at lexical and syntactical levels and analyzes the problems the author encountered from the perspective of translation theories, such as functional equivalence, translation shift, Skopostheory, etc. In this report, Chapter One mainly introduces the content of this translation task, editor’s background and the reasons why the author chose this book to translate. Chapter Two illustrates the course of the translation and specific steps of translation practice.Chapter Three analyzes the translation skills used during the translation and the approaches to deal with difficult sentences. Chapter Four introduces what the author has learnt from the translation and make a conclusion of this paper.
