Anyue Grotto is located in the Southeast of China, with a long history and profound culture, and it is the outstanding representative of Chinese Grotto art. The statues in Anyue Grotto are “historical, beautiful, varied and exquisite”, which makes them play a special linking function in Chinese grotto history. Especially for those Guan Yin statues, they have unique shapes, vivid images both from the form and spirit so that these characteristics lead them to become the rare art treasure among Chinese art culture. The Guan Yin statues in Anyue Grotto have deep meanings as well.They represent the individuals’ hope for eternal life and show ancient people’s attitude towards religion, which was full of fear and hope. In addition,they are the combination of human nature and divinity, representing the strong Buddihist statue art localization features, and of great historical, artistic and socio-economic values. However, according to the current academic research achievement in China, the relevant researches about Guan Yin statues in Anyue Grotto are very limited and have not formed a mature theoretical system. Therefore, the aim of the dissertation is to research the Guan Yin Statues in Anyue Grotto. The research is based on the field investigation, combines theoretical analysis and instance argument and integrates art, aestherics and so on different theories of multiple disciplines. Moreover,this paper analyzes the generating elements, niche-shaped form of statues, sculptures, posture, dress and so on of the Guan Yin Statues in Anyue Grotto and mainly focuses on the unique aesthetic and artistic values and meaning of existence, tying to make contribution to the development of the relevant researches of Chinese Grotto art.
