Nowadays interpreters are becoming more and more active in international communications and exchanges. In order to conduct a successful interpreting, it is necessary for the interpreters to obtain the right understanding of their role in interpreting. From the very basic opinion that the interpreters have to be neutral, this report presents that the role of interpreters in liaison interpreting is visible, especially when it involves the culture, the know-how and so on. Therefore the better understanding of the role of interpreter can affect the strategies that the interpreter conduct and the quality of interpreting. By exemplification and comparative analysis, this report points out that liaison interpreters can adopt such strategies as substitution, ellipsis, amplification and explanation in interpreting source information, especially cultural information, so as to promote communication between different cultural groups and facilitate the integration of local culture into global culture. With a better understanding of the role of interpreters, the quality of interpreting can be assured. |
