This paper is based on a study of seventeen sophomore undergraduates from Universitas Widya Kartika of Indonesia, with questionnaire and interview as well as tests employed to find out the usage and effects of listening learning strategies by students of primary Chinese level, putting forward some learning and teaching advice.Research shows that the employment of learning strategy is in positive correlation to students’ performance, and employment of learning strategy points to improvement of performance, thus training on learning strategy is of crucial importance to Chinese listening. It means that instructors should be oriented to strategy training and help the students use the learning strategies.Study also indicates that among all the learning strategies, affective and compensation strategies are more frequently used, and memory and cognitive strategies are less used. Those with excellent performance tend to use more learning strategy, and those less excellent are inclined to metacognitive, social and affective strategies.
