In this MTI report, the author describes a whispered interpreting task on the topic of Zisha culture, introduces the whole process of completing this task and reviews the typical cases of anticipation in the task. The purpose of this report is to cultivate the interpreter’s consciousness in applying the strategy of anticipation by learning western scholars’ ideas on the definition, classification and sources of anticipation. The materials are based on a Chinese to English whispered interpreting task at the service of an Australian teapot collector. The interpreter, who is entrusted by Zisha Channel of Yixing Broadcasting Network(YBN), works for a program called Zisha: Master says.By completing the task and reviewing the performance, the author believes that the application of the strategy of anticipation largely depends on the interpreter’s ability to predict the trend of the context, which can be enhanced by making full preparations before the task. Furthermore, the ability of applying the strategy of anticipation can also be reinforced by doing expression exercises after predicting key linguistic factors such as predicable sentence endings and connectives.
