Based on the Skopos theory, the author translated the first three chapters of the Stephen King’s Horror Fiction Riding the Bullet. The Skopos theory is the core of functionalist translation theory, which is firstly concerned about the purpose of translation. As for translating this text, the purpose of the translation is to reproduce the original style and the author’s writing style, in order to make the target text meet the reading habits of Chinese readers. Before translating, the author made lots of preparation such as reading the text repeatedly to get the writing style of the author, source-text analysis and theory selection.As for translating this horror fiction, the purpose of translation is to serve the readers by expressing the charm of its terror, to keep the style of the original works, at the same time to meet the reading habits of Chinese readers. Based on the Skopos theory, the author chose the the first three chapters of Riding the Bullet as the source text and translated it into Chinese. Some translation methods, such as division,amplification, will be used in the target text.
