This report is based on the translation project of a science fiction—— All Clear. The writer of this work is Connie Willis,a famous American science fiction writer. There are 68 chapters, and three chapters(chapters7-9)were assigned to the author of this report to translate. The book has not had any Chinese version until now. This report mainly discusses the features of the original text, the anticipated difficulties, the guidance of translation theory, and the translation methods and techniques adopted in the translation process. In the pre-translation preparation, the author made some preparations, including acquiring the related science and history knowledge, reading some parallel texts and preparing translation tools. In addition, the author effectively communicated with the other translators to achieve a unification of the glossary.During the process of translating, the translator made a deep analysis of the features of the original text. There are lots of descriptions of dialogues, actions and psychology to shape the three-dimensional full images of the characters. In order to accurately convey the meaning and the style of the original text, achieve the coherence of the utterance, and portray vivid images of characters, the author of this report adopted the corresponding translation methods and techniques under the guidance of skopos theory?s rules of skopos, coherence and fidelity. Two translation methods—— literal translation and free translation and some translation techniques, like division, amplification, conversion and so on are illustrated with examples. The author of this report gained valuable experience from this translation project and had a deeper understanding of the translation of science fictions. In order to successfully translate science fictions, translators should give an in-depth analysis of the features of the original texts and try their best to achieve accurate expression and the coherence of the translated text, taking into account the preferences and cultural empathy of target readers. The author of this report hopes that this introspection of her translation practice can not only improve her own translation ability, but provide some enlightenments to other science fiction translators as well.
