The Report On The E-C Translation Of Hell-heaven

As a task for the MTI project, this E-C translation practice report is based on my Chinese translation of the English novel, Hell-Heaven. Aiming to introduce the whole process, the problems encountered, the solutions given and other related considerations made in the completion of the task, this report is composed of four major parts: the task description, the process description, the case analysis and the summary & conclusion. The task description and process description give an overall introduction about the task, including the introduction of the author of the novel, her literary features, and the translation purposes as well as the detailed steps to accomplish the task, and the alike. The case analysis is the essence of this report, based on my Chinese translation of this English novel as the material for the analysis. In this part, I perform an initial research about the translation of names, the use of four-character structure, translation of complex sentences and translation of rhetoric devices under the theory of Dynamic Equivalence by Eugene·Nida and the principle of accurately conveying the original meaning to achieve the purpose of translation with specific examples and then, I conduct an analysis about errors and problems during the process of translating.In the summary & conclusion part, I conclude some translation strategies and skills on literary translation, describing some lessons I learned throughout the accomplishment of the task. Through this translation practice, I extended my knowledge of translation theory, enhanced the level of translation, and begin to have a more comprehensive and clear understanding associated with literary translation. In the end, I present the English novel and my Chinese translation in the appendix, which illustrates basic materials of this report and also serves as the embodiment of my translation skills.
