The "hermit" is an important symbol of Chinese traditional culture. It is a model of ideal personality, bearing the value of public expectation, which presents high aesthetic value. The analysis of "hermit" in this article is based on the prototype theory. On one hand, as a result of the diverse definition for "Hermit", the richness of connotation for’Shi" and the complex behavior for Hermit, the scope of "hermit" presents the character of openness and indistinct. On the other hand, with the idealized cognitive model, people form landscape space for the scope of Hermit, resolutely refusing an official position, and going for "Tao", namely prototyping of "hermit". The ambiguity of "hermit" semantic and the typicality of "hermit" prototype determine that foreign teaching of Hermit culture should be step by step. When teaching the "hermit" culture to foreigners, we should always take "hermit" prototype as the basis, building image about it, helping student form direct perception, and then the knowledge of "hermit" can be systematic acknowledged. Finally developing the student’s ability to make aesthetic analysis and guiding them to consciously recognize the "hermit" culture and even the whole Chinese culture are important teaching aims, which are also important standards for estimating the teaching effect. For the students who have enough learning capability, they should be further guided to make simple comparison between different cultures.
