Elegance and vulgarity are important aesthetic notions in China. From ancient times, numerous researches are made on discussion about Elegance and vulgarity, which are limited in traditional art such as literature, painting,music and Chinese opera,while there is rare theoretical study involving elegance and vulgarity in movie and television art. In recent years, with the alarm of "three kinds of vulgarity" in movie and television art, scholars are seriously considering elegance and vulgarity in this field. However, the theoretical research, with weak discussion, is still unsystematic and lags behind with other studies. As an important part in cultural creative industry, movie and television art will leave a significant impact on improvement of national aesthetics and shaping the image of a big nation and also national economic and social development. This paper seeks in-depth study of film and television aesthetic theory, especially the study of elegance and vulgarity issues, enlighten establishment of healthy and clear value of elegance and vulgarity and promote its sustainable development.This article includes three parts besides the introduction and the second part is the most important.The first part from Chapter 2 to Chapter 3, discussing the research value of elegance and vulgarity in movie and television art and the multi-environments confronted by contemporary movie and television art.The second part from Chapter 4 to Chapter 8, trying to probe into the issues of elegance and commonness in the multicultural environment. Based on the four elements of literary works put forward by Abrams and the artistic characteristics of the film and televisions, it probes respectively and deeply into the issues of the theory of elegance and commonness relationship with the film and television works, the film and television creators community, the transmitting symbols of film-video arts, the acceptors of film-video arts, and the outside world of film-video arts.The paper holds that:1. Elegance in movies and televisions refers to the decent, dedicate, and rational aesthetic taste.Compared with vulgarity in movies and televisions,it is relatively small.Vulgarity is a general concept:on the one hand,it is the natural, plain and unaffected aesthetic taste implying the customs spirit and commercial entertainment sense;On the other hand, vulgarity sometimes means "three kinds of vulgarity" under the influence of multicultural environment.2.Various creative subjects make different influences on presentation of elegance and vulgarity. As the center of movie and television creation, the director’s aesthetic taste leaves movie and television works present different aesthetic styles; the producer, desire for the investment and profit, fills the films with popular and commercial aesthetic feeling; with return of the basic status of scriptwriter, his literature quality, creative spirit and aesthetic desire will deeply influence the presentation of elegance and vulgarity of movie and television works; actors will affect elegance and vulgarity in movies through detailed and stylish performance.3. Artistic symbol is employed to present different features in movie and TV art, which is similar to elegance and vulgarity.4. Differences in elegance and vulgarity in movie and television works lead to different aesthetic feelings.5. The important external environment which influences elegance and vulgarity of movie and television art lies in that the traditional culture, the institute inspection, the movie and television media and the movie and television criticism.The third part is Chapter 9, talking about the influences in the multicultural environment of the research of elegance and commonness in film-video arts. |
