Look Again At The Noblewoman Painting Of Qing Dynasty

Noblewoman painting, belonging to figure painting in Chinese traditional painting, is an important part of figure painting. Noblewoman painting explosively grew in Qing Dynasty, and it is well worth studying the special style differing from that of before. But later generations have not paid much attention to it and they do not think highly of it. This paper will analyze the reasons of the explosive growth of Qing’s noblewoman painting and the arising of the special taste from the social factors of Qing’s politics, economy and thought, then introduce its contents, forms, aesthetic styles, and the painting skills and features, and discuss its influence to the later age painting. Finally, this paper will query and rebut the existing critique to noblewoman painting of Qing Dynasty, conclude that noblewoman painting of Qing is folk and secular,neither vulgar nor seductive, and reassess its artistic value.
