With the development of Chinese economy, the increasing number of foreigners begins to learn Chinese. However, the native language of each country and Chinese language exist various differences, therefore, we cannot contrast them separately. English is the most universal language in the world; it is typical to compare English to Chinese. Both zenme and how can form interrogative sentence to ask for reason and manner, and have their own feature in semantic and syntactic.This paper discusses the research achievements and status in quo of zenme and how in first chapter. From the second chapter, we intend to proceed the comparison in the syntactic form and the pragmatic form, etc.In the second chapter, we can see the most common usage of zenme and how is adverbial, asking about reason and manner. For the syntactic difference, zenme could be used as attribute and predicate, while how is used as predicative. When zenme is used as single-questions, its English correspondence is why. The third chapter studies the pragmatic feature of zenme and how. Both of them can be used for exclamation, arbitrary reference and forming rhetorical questions. In the fourth chapter, we investigate the error analysis and non-interrogative usage of zenme in TCSL. We hope to provide some help for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The last chapter is conclusion, defect and shortage.
