A Practice Report On The Troubled Asset Relief Program On CBO Official Website

This is an English-Chinese translation practice report. The translation work is on the translation practice of the budget reports that is provided by Heilongjiang province National People’s Congress Committee. The author specifically took charge of the translation practice for the 2014 financial report on the Troubled Asset Relief Program.There are five chapters in this report: At the beginning of the report,it describes the translation task, including the client background, task delegations, description of CBO website and the task requests,as well as text content, text type and features. This chapter introduces the main content and character of the translation task: Troubled Asset Relief Program, which is as part of the budget report text, has the characteristics of objectivity, professionalism and accuracy. The second part is the description of the practice process and the introduction of guiding theory. This report is based on "functional equivalence" theory produced by Engene A Nida, American linguist and translation theory researcher, for this translation practice according to the text feature. Nida thinks that translation needs to achieve functional equivalence, namely the equivalence of semantics, textual style, cultural information and readers’ reflection. Its core part is emphasizing that during the course of translation, the reader’s response to the translation maximum close to the source text reader’s response to the source text. So, under the guidance of the theory, the Troubled Asset Relief Program of 2012 United States government budget report and the Troubled Asset Relief Program of 2014 United States government budget report are selected as the subject of cases analysis, analyzes the problems respectively from the aspects of semantics, grammar, discourse encountered in the translation work. With the combination of the translation theory "functional equivalence", the appropriate translation strategies are chosen to solve the problem, then put forward the feasible translation and translation methods. The last part is the summary of the practice report. Through the practice, the author’s professional quality is improved and sublimated, and verified the existing translation theory in practice with strong functionality and practicality.Translating the Troubled Asset Relief Program helps to draw lessons from its suitable factor for China’s economic development, foster strengths and circumvent weaknesses, improving the economic benefit. At the same time, it improves the accuracy of the English-Chinese translation, which is related to financial field,getting achievements for the combination of translation practice and theory.
