College Students’ Parental Attachment And It’s Influences On Social Adaption

Social adaptation is one kind of ability that human beings constantly adjusted themselves to fit into the society, according to the environmental change. Social adaptation is affected by family upbringing and parental relationship, at the same time, one’s personality trait is reflected in the entire social adaptation process. Parental attachment is a kind of close emotional connection, and the quality of the parent-child attachment affect social adaptation. Rejection sensitivity, as personality factors influencing social adaptation, is gradually formed in the interactive mode of unsafe parent-child attachment.On the basis of parental attachment theory, this study explored the relationship between the college student’s parental attachment and social adaptation, and investigated its active mechanism-the mediating role of rejection sensitivity. This research adopts the questionnaire to survey 1100 college students, and we come to the conclusion as follows:(1) The whole situation of college student’s rejection sensitivity of our nation is in a good condition, probably in the average level. On the gender aspect, the sense of rejection sensitivity of girl’s is significantly higher than boy’s; on the type of school aspect,the sense of rejection sensitivity of undergraduates is significantly higher than college students; on the grade aspect, the sophomores’ is significantly higher than the freshmen’, the juniors’ is significantly lower than the sophomores’. And there are no significant differences in discipline, origin of students and whether the one-child.(2) College student’s social adaptation and its dimensions-the learning adaptation, life adaptation and interpersonal adaptation has a significant positive relation to parental attachment, and has a significant negative relation to the sense of rejection sensitivity. Parental attachment and its dimension-communication has a significant negative relation to the sense of rejection sensitivity, another dimension of parental attachment- alienation has a significant positive relation to the sense of rejection sensitivity.(3) College student’s parental attachment has a significant positive prediction to social adaptation, after the join of rejection sensitivity, the predictive power of college student’s parental attachment to social adaptation is reduced. The statistical analysis shows that the effect of college student’s parental attachment to social adaptation is through the sense of rejection sensitivity. Rejection sensitivity, has partial mediation effect between college student’s parental attachment and social adaptation.
