Between The "Landscape" And "Flower-and-bird" Painting-Research On YunNantian’s Painting

In Chinese painting history, the landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting became independent subjects during the different periods, both of them mutually promoted and infiltrated in the development afterwards. Then it in turn boosted a peak of integration of landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting till the modern time. Been combing periods of the paintings which are between landscape and flower-and bird painting, The author found that Yun Nantian is the first artist who claimed the combination of landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting. Meanwhile, he applied this theory in his practice of painting.The thesis discusses the works of Yun Nantian and his theories of painting, many of them show the signs of exploration of combing landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting. Both the traditional technique of landscape and the decorate method of using clouds to serve are presented in his flower-and-bird painting. Besides, using the flower-and-bird painting style of technique to demonstrate colored bamboos while painting landscape in ink is original with him. These are also interpreted in the prefaces and postscripts, theories of paintings. The thesis analyses thoroughly of Yun Nantian’s paintings which are between landscape and flower-and bird painting, dissects their expressions and reasons at many aspects:the heritage of withered trees,bamboos and rocks as well as tradition landscape and flower-and-bird painting, the emphasis of sketch from nature, and his innovative painting thoughts.
