The Relationship Between Adult Attachment And Adaption Among Freshman: The Mediator Roles Of Depression And Loneliness

Adult attachment is a relatively stable psychological structure and process and is closely related to our daily life, work and so on. It has always been a popular research topic. Up to now, the scholars have reached an agreement that adult attachment can be divided into attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance. According to the scores on the two dimensions, the participants can be divided into four types, namely, secure, anxious, avoid and fear. In the past 20 years, there is a rapid development about the concept, theoretical models and empirical studies of adult attachment in foreign countries. However, the related research in China is still at embryonic stage. On the bases that the questionnaires have good reliability and validity, the research administrated cluster analysis and discriminate analysis and build discriminate functions according to the scores of attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety of the freshmen in the School of Education Science of Henan University. Besides, the research discussed the score differences of attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety on demographic variables. Finally, the research used a script which was developed by Preachers and Hayes in 2008 to analysis the multiple mediation effect of depression and loneliness between adult attachment and the overall adaption. The conclusions are as follows:Firstly, the model of multitrait-multimethod proved that AAQ had good convergent and discriminate validity and the other questionnaires of the research have good reliability and validity.Secondly, according to the scores of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance, the college freshmen can be divided into four types, which are secure, anxiety, avoidance and fear. The discriminate function established based on the cluster analysis can classify subjects accurately as high as 98.98%. So the discriminate function can be used in future studies to classify subjects.Thirdly, on the attachment avoidance dimension, there are significant differences between different genders, areas and love experiences. On the attachment anxiety dimension, individuals of different ages have significant difference.Fourth, depression and loneliness provide a complete multiple intermediary effect between attachment anxiety and the overall adaptation. But it is not the same with attachment avoidance and the overall adaptation.
