Based on literature review, open-ended questionnaire and individual interviews, the study puts forward a theoretical hypothesis about loneliness of undergraduates. Then the author designs the preliminary questionnaire of loneliness of undergraduates, and forms the formal scale after modification. The study have investigated 993 college students in 3 provinces such as Shandong, Henan, Chongqing with the scale, and analyses the effect of gender, age, singleton, love status and attachment style to explore characteristics of loneliness of undergraduates, then the mediate model of loneliness, attachment, relationship with parents and depression was also investigated. The results of this study are as follows:(1)The self-made scale of loneliness of undergraduates is of high reliability and fair validity, thus it can be used as a measure of loneliness of undergraduates. It revealed that there is one dimensions: loneliness.(2)There is a significant gender difference on loneliness, female students are significantly higher than male students.(3)There is a significant difference between college students who are in the different love states, college students in love are significantly lower than students of other love states on loneliness level.(4)There are significant differences among different attachment styles. Secure attachment is lower than other attachment styles on loneliness, there is no difference among fearful attachment, preoccupied attachment and dismissing attachment on loneliness.(5)Self-criticism mediated in part the association between attachment and loneliness. Low level of self-criticism mediated the association between secure attachment and loneliness, high level of self-criticism mediated the association between preoccupied attachment and loneliness.(6)Attachment and self-criticism mediated the association between relationship with parents and loneliness. Secure attachment and low level of self-criticism mediated the association between parental care and loneliness, preoccupied attachment and high level of self-criticism mediated the association between lack of parental care and loneliness.
