Deconstructionism deeply influenced art design field as a philosophical trend of thought in 1980s. Nowadays, it was simply considered as a certain Post-modern style in design world, which results in blindly imitation and repetition in practice. In this essay, I attempt to consider "Deconstruction" as an individual term peeling away from "Deconstructionism" based on historical facts, seeing it as an innovative design paradigm, in order to examine the problems, also explore the possibilities within contemporary art design category. This essay is divided into three parts. The methodology and purpose of the study was given in the first part. I also elaborated the background and definition of "Deconstruction", the historical facts when it entered graphic design field as well. I discussed the importance of deconstruction as design paradigm and its influence on western and eastern graphic design in second part. The third part mainly talks about the application of this design paradigm, and I represented not only those influential historical works in the field also my own art design works using "Deconstruction" as methodology also a certain way of thinking. The concept of "Deconstruction" belongs to the category of Postmodernism, as a particular design methodology. "Deconstruction" can be seen as resistance to the Modernism design, also a bridge connected Modern with Contemporary design. The discussion regarding "Deconstruction" in this essay mainly focuses on the period of time ranging from 1980s-1990s. I attempt to give a personal thinking and definition on this subject taking various graphic design practices for examples. In a word, it has positive significance looking into related theory and cases for Chinese contemporary design practice specifically.
