Almost everything Paul de man wrote is related to the question of reading.Reading for de man includes not just reading as such, certainly not just the act ofreading works of literature, but sensation, perception, and therefore every human actwhatsoever. However, every reading is actually a misreading. It is due to thedimension of rhetoric of language.Rhetoric is rooted in the language and it makesevery produced text self-deconstruction. There is no single, core meaning of a text, but uncertain, unlimited produced, and those meanings are still locked to the text. Forde Man,all narratives are the allegory of self misreading. And language is alsoself-resistance, that is, theory is self-resistance.
