This thesis is presented in the format of practice report which is based on the author’s simulated interpreting experience on the two TED speeches “A 40-year plan for energy” and “The missing link to renewable energy”. And the author analyzes the interpreting process integrating with interpretation theories. When interpreting, in order to reach the goal of fluent communication without any language obstacles, the interpreter must avoid the language structure of original language and choose the expressions that match the listeners’ linguistic habit and cultural practices. This simulated interpreting practice is guided by Adaptation Theory which was raised by Verschueren, the head of Belgium Pragmatics Association. The author analyzes the interpreting process integrating the successful examples and failed ones from the following aspects——the contextual correlates of adaptability, the structural objects of adaptability, the dynamics of adaptability and the salience of the adaptation processes, and gives solutions to the failed examples. What’s more, the author sets out other problems by giving some examples and comes up solutions to solve similar problems better when interpreting in the future. At last the author makes a summing up of the experience and lessons of the practice and hopes it will bring reference for the later interpreting.
