Xing Shi Yan is a short novel which was created during the times of Chongzhen emperor, Ming Dynasty. Its outstanding fetures include the oral language and dialect features and they are very helpful to provide plenty of language materials for the study of social appellation between Ming and early Qing Dynasty.Those social appellation words in Xing Shi Yan also reflect the local language features and from which we can be aware of the people’s life and their cultural.This thesis takes the social appellation words in Xing Shi Yan as research object and with various reserach methods, the author intends to excavate and collate the words completely, revealing how they’ve been used in the novel. On this basis in this paper the researcher also try to classify and explain some distinctive words in pursuit of covering the shortages of the explanations in dictionaries.The introduction mainly introduces the basic information and current situation of the research. The first three chapters take a statistic and analysis for the three kinds of social appellation words systematic. Combined with the dictionary, we intend to explain and illustrate parts of the words, add the meanings or testify the words which the dictionary doesn’t contain.The fourth chapter, on the basis of the first three, summarizes the basic features of the social appellation words such as their oral dialect features, theirs reflecting the change of the bureaucratic establishment, the change of social stratification, the contradiction between the central plains area and the minority and the social appellation’s extension.
