As a Guoxue master in China modern times, Mr. Zhang Shunhui (1911-1992) had a broad academic field, which covers classics, history, philosophy and belles-letters. Also, he is a diligent and great scholar who published a very large amount of articles on different themes especially collected works and thoughts of scholars in Qing Dynasty, which has produced prodigious influence. Zhuangyi Xuan Journal by Mr. Zhang Shunhui from September 1942 to January 1947, which recorded many aspects of his life mainly including reading, teaching, writing and academic intercommunion. And among 95 kinds of books he read and recorded in the journal, there are 50 from Qing Confucians.Undoubtedly, this academic journal is rather valuable to study his research in the youth on academy of Qing scholars. However, so far, there are few papers on Zhuangyi Xuan Journal, although most treatises by Zhang Shuihui has been introduced and studied. Given all that, this paper give a comprehensive investigation and analysis on 300 quotations from 65 collected works by Qing scholars recorded in the journal, which became manuscripts of three important treatises on Qing Confucians published later such as Outline Index Of Collected Works by Qing Scholars, Records of Qing Confucians, Records of Yangzhou Scholars in Qing Dynasty. Also, through a comprehensive transversal reading between these quotations and related discussion and the three treatises published later,we clearly know that Zhang Shuihui’s academic ideas on Qing Confucians in youth influenced his treatises on the academy of Qing Dynasty directly and greatly. Obviously, Zhang Shunhui paid close attention to four aspects of Qing academy. The first is that studying should take making study serve practical purposes as the goal so that he praises Zeng Guofan very highly. The second is that a scholar should make each effort to be learned as possible as he can, just like great scholars in Qing Dynasty such as Weng Fanggang, Yao Nai, Zhang Xuecheng, Ruan Yuan, Wang Niansun and his son Wang Yinzhi and Sun Yirang. The third is that studying should be based on fountainhead and abandon all sectarian bias. The four is that scholars should write articles that are uesful to society but never can take literati as life orientation.
