The Research On The Exegetical Materialfrom Quan Song Bi Ji (Fourth)

Quan Song bi ji(fourth), containing ten books and thirty six kinds of notes, possesses great historical value and linguistic value. The content of these books is all-embracing, including historical events and stories, social regulations and institutions, ethnic customs, scenery, art and lecture. Some parts of the content focus on critical interpretation of ancient texts, specializing in clarifying forms, pronunciations, and meanings of words with various suitable examples and detailed explanation. However, until now the study on stories of the notes is not enough. Although, they have great value to study, yet the existing researches are assorted, and not enough. So the notes deserve to be further studied. This thesis focuses on the study of 1035 cases of the linguistic materials, based on the existing study. There are four chapters of this thesis. The second and third chapters are the main part of this thesis.The first chapter is exordium. It explained necessarily and sufficiently why Quan Song bi ji(fourth) was chosen as the study material.The second chapter is the analysis, investigation and correction of the questions in the linguistic materials. The author did a further, detailed and sufficient explanation for the linguistic corpora of the fourth edition. Meanwhile, corresponding supplement and justification for the incomplete and incorrect corpora were carefully made. The total number of the linguistic materials of this part is 36.The third chapter, three parts included, analyzes the value of the linguistic materials. The first part investigated the innovation value of the notes for its explanation of words. As Song dynasty is the significant period for China ancient academic development, the notes must contain a great number of critical knowledge and innovation. The total number of the material is 15. The second part is the collection of the methods of exegesis. The readers will easily find that these methods of Song Dynasty form a connecting link between the preceding and the following, by the author’s collection of the methods that was used in The Notes. These methods provided a great example for the development of the following exegetical methods. The third part is lexicographical value. By comparing with Grand Chinese Dictionary, the number of the supplement of new words, meanings and correction is 42 cases, 3 cases, and 11 cases respectively.The fourth chapter is a conclusion part, this part made a summarization on the characteristic of Song Dynasty’ exegesis, and it emphasized the great value of the notes.Above all, this thesis not only pointed out the incompleteness of some cases, but also investigated the exegetical and lexicographical value by the method of careful study and argument for the linguistic materials of Quan Song bi ji(fourth), in the hope of further understanding of the Notes, and emphasizing the great value of the Notes in lecture study and note stories.
