The education cause of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) began to flourish against the backdrop of the development of national economy and the improvement of international status. Any language learning is indispensable to culture so that culture teaching has become an increasingly important part of TCSL. Classical Chinese poetry not only contains the essence of the Chinese language and culture, but the traditional Chinese ideology and culture. It is necessary to learn the classical Chinese poetry in order to truly master Chinese. However, taking the difficulty in understanding the language and content of classical Chinese poetry into consideration, it has been a difficulty in teaching Chinese, which is often ignored by Chinese teachers.The author introduced the classical Chinese poetry to the Chinese class of middle school during her teaching practice in the Thailand. The uniqueness of classical Chinese poetry in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, not only enriches the teaching contents, but is helpful for the students to understand and learn the Chinese culture. This paper consists of the following parts. The first part introduces the origin, significance and value of the topic, illustrates the current research status at home and abroad and explains the research methods and creativeness. The second part mainly expounds the content of culture factors in TCSL and the significance of culture teaching, and probes into the teaching principles and teaching methods the culture teaching should follow. The third part describes the current situation of the Chinese teaching of middle school in Thailand, especially the Chinese culture teaching of the school where the author worked as a intern teacher, according to the Chinese curriculum, teachers’and students’conditions. The fourth part studies the feasibility of poetry being the content of the culture teaching, ant puts forward that the pronunciation, vocabulary and other aspects of classical Chinese poetry can effectively help the students learn Chinese. The fifth part presents the teaching design and teaching process of "A Spring Morning" and "The Stork Tower". The sixth part is a look at of the prospect of the teaching of the classical Chinese poetry. The last part draws some conclusions and summarizes the limitations in the paper. |
