Beethoven’s music went far beyond his predecessors. At that time, the use of musical instruments, especially brass-wind instruments, were restricted. If Beethoven could use modern brass-wind ins truments to write his music, would he change his orchestration? And would the performance effect s after such modifications be more clear and accurate? I hope that the modified music score could provide conductors and orchestras with one more choice or could be some reference and partly lea rned from.Seen from all the recordings, many foreign conductors such as Mahler and Karajan would change the orchestration when performing. Those who have been changed included Beethoven’s works. B ut nobody "dared" to seek the full version of modification, leaving only few descriptions publishe d. In the performances of domestic orchestras, there have been no modifications of brass-wind inst ruments instead of have-to modifications due to the limitation of the cast of the orchestras. This essaytakes two movements and one overture of Beethoven’s symphony as examples to expla in rules and methods of my modification. All modified music scores have been tested in practice b y orchestras and proved practicable. The third chapter of this essay will have relevant modified mu sic scores as attachments.Even if the modified music scores were used not much in real performances, the process and expla nations of modification can still help the writer and readers to understand more and be more deepl y impressed by Beethoven’s symphony, not only in terms of orchestration. I hope to provide dome stic symphony orchestras and their conductors with one more choice and file of Beethoven’s brass music scores.
