In recent years, domestic scholars pay more and more attention to the application of needs analysis in Foreign Language Teaching. The researchers at home and abroad carried out the studies related to needs analysis from different aspects. However, the author found that the studies related to the English learning needs of Art Major students are rare. Comparing with ordinary majors’ students, the English level of art major students is low. In College English teaching, we can not use the same way to teach art major students as ordinary majors’students. Therefore, a study on the learning needs analysis of 90 art major students is carried out. This study takes the art major students from Guangxi Normal University as research subjects. And using the theory of needs analysis combines with the model of needs analysis put forward by Hutchison and Water as theoretical foundation. The instruments of investigation in this study are questionnaire and interview. The content of the study conclude:1) what are the learning goals and expectations of art major students in learning English? 2) Which content of English knowledge, language skills do they prefer to learn? 3) Which English learning methods and styles do they prefer?The results of investigation show that in the aspect of learning objectives, students have both passive and initiative learning objectives, among them, passive learning objectives is more than initiative learning objectives.; in the aspect of language knowledge and language skills, art major students hope to learn more English knowledge related with their professions and they more focus on learning oral speaking ability; in the aspect of learning styles and methods, art major students prefer to group study and involve in communicating.The research results show art major students needs of learning English. This study through analysis of the learning needs of art major students, explore the reasons and put forward some proposals for teachers can instruct art major students more knowledge in College English teaching. First of all, guide students to establish a correct learning objective and design teaching objectives to meet the demands of students. Secondly, teachers should concern students’ overall comprehensive competence and provide more opportunities for art major students to practice their spoken English. Thirdly, teachers should instruct some useful learning strategies and design various classroom activities to arouse students’interest.
