This current research is with an empirical study of motivation among the English as Second Major Students (ESMS). The aim of the study is to investigate the ESMS’ motivation types, explore the correlation between motivation and learners’English achievement and learners’changes in English learning motivation.The participants in this study are120students from the ESMS of Qingdao University. Three instruments are used to collect the data, a CET-4records, a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The system of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS13.0) is used to summarize the participants’responses to motivation, to examine how motivation is related to learning achievements. T-test is employed to identify if there is any significant differences in terms of motivation type between male and female participants. The120participants are divided into the high score group and the low score group to analyze different choice of motivation between high score and low score groups. The interview mainly explores the learners’ changes in English learning motivation based on the relevance of additional research.The implication of the study is that teachers can help their students develop their cultural motivation so that they can create all individual language learning environment and arouse students’interest in language learning. Some tentative suggestions are put forward based on the findings in the present study mainly from perspectives of teachers to perfect the ESMS’education.
