With the development of the research of second language learning and the science of Cognitive Psychology, many foreign language teachers have been increasingly aware of the importance of motivation. Only the foreign language teachers learn the non-English Major’s English learning motivation can they choose their proper teaching methods to stimulate and cultivate the students’ English learning motivation. And also in this way can the English teachers achieve ideal effect in English teaching. Recently, many English teachers and researchers have done some research on junior and senior middle school students’ motivation, and many studies about non-English major college students and English major college students’ motivation. However, it’s comparatively lack of studies on vocational college students’ English learning motivation.On the basis of the previous researches, the author conducted a study on investigating non-English majors’ English learning motivation in vocational colleges of Jiangxi province and analyzes the main influential factors. The author collected the concrete data by questionnaire and interview. The subjects of the study are 447 students from four different vocational colleges of Jiangxi Province. The results of the analysis are as follows:The main types of their English-learning motivation are instrument-oriented and certificate-oriented; some students can’t hold a proper attitude toward their English learning and they are lack of English-learning goals, motivation and interests. Factors like society, school, parents, teachers and personal studying attitude and learning strategies. Therefore the author puts forward some suggestions to stimulate and cultivate the students’ English learning motivation. Finally the author draws a conclusion and advances some suggestions for further studying, hoping to improve the students’ motivation of English learning.This paper consists of five parts:the first part is introduction that is the interpretation of background information, the aim, significance, some related definitions and the outline of this study. Part two is the summary of the references, the outline of domestic and foreign theories of motivation. Part three is the investigation and analysis of English learning motivation of non-English majors vocational college students in Jiang xi province. Part four is the strategies to stimulate and cultivate college students’ motivation from several different perspectives. Part five is the conclusion which describes the enlightenment of the study, the limitation and the outlook.
