This report is based on the translation of Chapter 3 (Relationship between Chinese Culturology and relevant disciplines) and 4 (Research objects of the Chinese Culturology), Chapter 5 (Natural ecological environment of the evolution of Chinese culture) as well as Chapter 12 (Cultural traits of Yunnan and Guizhou provinces and Tibetan Plateau), and these are the important parts of Chinese Culturology by Qin Deqing and published by Guangxi Normal University Press in 2015. Chinese Culturology involves geography, culture, history and natural environment, etc. This report gives an introduction to the text source and the context, and the research background, purpose of research and research significance are briefly summarized. And then, the text feature, the language feature of the text and the difficulties in translation, parallel texts as well as teamwork are presented. The following part elaborates upon the cohesion and coherence theory, including research status, the classification and definitions of the cohesive devices, and the implications for translation practice. From the perspective of the five cohesive devices, namely, reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, as well as lexical cohesion, the differences of the cohesive devices between English and Chinese are illustrated with specific examples, and the causes of the differences are briefly analyzed, besides, translation approaches are summarized. The author adopts the method of literal translation to make the translation as faithful to the source text as possible. Relevant materials are read and some translation skills are used in the translation practice.Cohesion is a kind of semantic relations within the text and between text and situation, that is, a semantic relation of textual meaning. Different cohesive devices, in different texts, have different cohesive relations in the text. Cohesive devices are important to achieve coherence of a discourse both in English and Chinese. The author holds that a translator should not only pay attention to sentences but also the text in the process of translation. A proper handling of cohesive devices will give birth to a fluent and natural translation version, and vice versa. The last part is the conclusion summarizing the experiences and deficiencies during the translation. The five cohesive devices are used both in English and Chinese to achieve the purpose of cohesion and coherence; however, there are some differences between them. In translation, the characteristics of different languages should be considered in order to achieve coherence and tautness.
