Cultural interaction is an important approach of anthropological studies on change and development of ethnic culture. It has certain academic value to study the cultural interactions among different inter-intra-ethnic groups who engage pastoralism in the pastoral area, and their cultural changes. This thesis is a comparative study to examine the cultural interactions among native S?nid Mongolians, non-native S?nid Mongolians and immigrant Han Chinese based on anthropological field research. The author chose Tom-Ilalt Gaqaa, Hongor Sumu, Eastern S?nid Banner of Shilinggol League as a fieldwork site and collected the primary source of daily life of the three groups of peoples. The thesis consists of three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction states the reason and importance of choosing the topic, methodology and a review of the relevant studies at home and abroad.Chapter one introduces the fieldwork site, the Tom-Ilalt Gaqaa in Eastern S?nid, especially focusing on the population, economic and living conditions.Chapter two analyzes cultural interactions between native S?nid Mongolian and non-native Mongolians in Tom-Ilalt Gaqaa from their daily life, dialects and religious faiths. Because of constant long term daily contact between the two groups of peoples, both of their original cultural patterns have changed. However, non-native Mongolians are immensely affected by native S?nid Mongolians.Chapter three analyzes cultural interactions between S?nid Mongolians and Chinese people in Tom-Ilalt Gaqaa from linguistic, economic, and burial customs. Large number of Chinese have flooded into the area and influenced the S?nid Mongolians’ life and culture.Meanwhile, the Chinese have also been affected by the S?nid Mongolians linguistically, as well as in life style. However, their sense of value and economic system has been kept different from S?nid Mongolians. Conclusion summarizes the whole thesis, and puts forward the main ideas about the cultural interactions of the given peoples in the pastoral area.
