A Study On The Cultural Heritage Of The Wenchuan Earthquake

The history of human development has never gone well smoothly and covered with flowers. Disasters, diseases, wars, crimes and a series of damages and pain caused by nature or human being almost have gone through all the humankind history. Especially in the recent centuries, two World Wars, tremendous earthquake left the human society and common memory deep damages and impressions. These kind of painful memories may not end, in a pessimistic way, until today, wars and natural disasters are still happening, diseases may come across, crimes remains a unsolved problem to every country and society. These negative processes may have become the past cultural heritage, still influence our memories, thoughts and social lives in different ways. It’s not the new topic that people reflect and memorize wars and disasters. Various kinds of museums, memorial hall, monument and public cemetery have been established to console and commemorate the past trauma.A major earthquake measured 8.0 Richter scale struck Wenchuan, Sichuan Province at 14:28 on May 12,2008. Wenchuan Earthquake was the most destructive earthquake happened in the mainland since Republic of China has established, which is called 5.12 "Wenchuan Earthquake. " After a series of efforts, people of the destructive district have been out of the shadows slowly, gradually began a new life. Building earthquake heritage has become one of the most important issues discussed in the disaster. Proposing heritage not only commemorating the earthquake disaster, but also has become one of the engines which glow economic vitality.Five years have passed, once disaster areas have brought to a new life. The essay focuses on the heritage of Wenchuan Earthquake, discusses the heritage function and future transformation through the establishment of concept of earthquake heritage, the constructing process of the heritage and the analyses of the current condition. Based on the fieldwork and document study, the essay re-exams and interprets the heritage, which may benefit the future protection and utilizing.
